1900 - 1930s Black Girl Hand Painted Perfume Bottle w/ Stopper
Old Chicago Depression Folk Art Unusual
This is a very unusual folk art black Americana piece from an old Chicago neighborhood and it is truly one of a kind and I have not seen another one like it before
It appears to have belonged to a little black girl as the painting on the front of it is just that and she is dressed in a long dress and there are flowers painted all over the rest of the bottle which appears to me to be an old medicine bottle that was used to make a very pretty present for a small girl back during the depression when money and jobs were hard to come by
It is a very old bottle from 1900 to 1930 or somewhere in there
I think it was possibly a gift to a little girl by a relative or something - appears to be from a poor family that perhaps could not afford a fancy expensive gift so an old bottle was used and hand painted to make it a pretty gift to the girl who received it
It may be the girl painted onto the bottle was the one who received it as a gift for a birthday gift when times were hard during the great depression
The condition is very good with no chips or cracks and it is untouched as it was found in Chicago years ago so it was not cleaned out (see photos to see the inside stuff) as I prefer to let the collector do this on an unusual piece such as this and it should probably be displayed just as is in a glass case or on a shelf with other unusual collectible pieces to show off its true beauty
I have never even tried to take the stopper out as this is something I leave up to the collector
It measures 3" tall and there are no chips or cracks
